Headshot of Cupit

Dr. Cupit

Medical Director

Dr. Cupit is a true Colorado native who knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she heard that vets get to be with animals all day, every day. She was born in Wheat Ridge and graduated from Arvada High School, spent a year at Cornell, then missed Colorado and transferred to CU Boulder (where her parents had met years before). She earned her BFA in Studio Arts/Photography, then took a few years to travel the world, even living on the beach in Hawaii for a few months.

Dr. Cupit returned to the veterinary path by attending CSU for a year to earn her BS in Equine Sciences, then staying at CSU to earn her DVM in 2001. Dr. Cupit worked at small animal practices, then took several years off to be a full—time mom to her daughter, who is now a teenager.

Dr. Cupit loves spending time with her family and her pets which include dogs, cats, lizards, and a pony. She has always enjoyed having her own horses and plans to begin Cross Country Jumping as soon as she can.

As the new Medical Director at Dugan’s veterinary hospital, Dr. Cupit is excited to make the hospital the absolute best place to bring your pets. She loves taking time with clients and their pets to ensure the best possible life and health for everyone.

Headshot of Wenkeimer

Dr. Sara Wenkheimer

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Sara Wenkheimer is proud to have been born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. From a very young age, she was an animal lover and knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She believes her love of animals began on her grandparents’ dairy farm in Wisconsin. In high school, Dr. Wenkheimer began volunteering at the Denver Zoo which started a 12 year span of involvement at the zoo in multiple different positions between animal care and education. During vet school, she also had externships with the veterinary teams of Pueblo Zoo (Pueblo, CO), Henry Doorley Zoo (Omaha, NE) and Memphis Zoo (Memphis, TN). In addition, she traveled to South Africa in the summer of 2012 on a veterinary student trip. Her passion for exotic animals and wildlife conservation can be attributed to these amazing experiences and opportunities.

Dr. Wenkheimer went to Colorado State University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Biomedical Science. She proceeded to attend veterinary school at CSU as well, and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2014.

After graduation, she moved to Hilton Head, SC where she practiced for 6 years. There she met her husband and had her first child. She returned to the Denver area in summer of 2020 to be closer to family and to raise her children in the state she loves so dearly. Dr. Wenkheimer and her family welcomed their second child in July of 2021.

On her free time, Dr. Wenkheimer enjoys spending time with her family, snowboarding, going to the zoo, watching the NFL (proud Packers fan!), and enjoying the activities and sights Colorado has to offer. She also enjoys spending time with and caring for her own pets. At home, she has 2 dogs, 2 cats, a bird, 4 snakes, 3 lizards, a tortoise, and guinea pigs. Many of these animals are disabled or were acquired under special circumstances.

Dr. Wenkheimer is extremely excited to join the wonderful team at Dugan’s Veterinary Hospital. She looks forward to building and nurturing lasting relationships and offering quality care to her clients and their pets.
